When I was a young boy, my uncle PFC Alva Abrams, U.S. Army, was killed during the Battle of Luzon in the Philippines. The life of “Uncle Alvie,”as we called him, was cut short before he could pursue his dreams or begin to fulfill his life’s potential. He was one of many who did not come home.

Claremont Youth Symphony Orchestra and Prelude String Ensemble present their joint season finale concert at 3:30 p.m. in Bridges Hall of Music, Pomona College, 150 E. 4th St., Claremont. CYSO will present music from classical and movie genres, including music from the motion pictures Avengers.

June 2: CYMO celebrates 30th Anniversary
The 7:30 p.m. concert, given by the Claremont Young Musicians Orchestra, will include The Cowboys Overture by John Williams, Romeo and Juliet by Tchaikovsky, and The Firebird Suite by Stravinsky. The soloists for the evening will be CYMO concerto competition winners.

Hillside Fine Art marks five years with super bloom
The Claremont gallery currently promotes 16 artists from throughout the state. This year, with our landscape bursting forth with wildflowers in super bloom, owner Steve Harrison suggested that artists capture the splendor on canvas, so we can enjoy it forever.
