‘Tip the Firefighter’ fundraiser to benefit families fighting cancer

Ontario Fire Local 1430 will host the 11th Annual “Tip the Firefighter” fundraiser nex weekend. The event will be at El Torito Restaurant, 3680 Inland Empire Blvd. in Ontari 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, March 16 and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 17.

The event benefits Megan's Wings, a volunteer-based non-profit foundation assisting families of children with cancer. Ontario firefighters will help serve Iris foods and the traditional El Torito menu. The two-day event includes live bands, impersonators karaoke (Saturday for adults and Sunday for kids), a raffle, a silent auction and lots of green fun.

The event is sponsored by local Ontario businesses, and sponsorships are still available.

Health and Fitness Expo

The 2013 La Verne Family Health and Fitness Expo will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16 at Bonita High School at 3102 D St. The free event, which is open to the public, is put on by the La Verne Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by San Dimas Community Hospital, Southern California Gas Company and La Verne Family Chiropractic.

A family walk/run will begin at 9:45 a.m. There will be free health screenings, fitness workshops, blood pressure checks, free flu vaccines, free prescription disposal, nutritional screenings, spine screenings, and chair massages. The La Verne Police Department and Fire Department will be providing safety information as well.

Toast of the Town

Make your reservations now for the Eighth Annual Toast of the Town on Thursday, March 21. There will be fine cuisine from local restaurants and

participants can delight in the tastes of award- winning wines while enjoying live music.

Participants also will have the opportunity to win prizes, participate in a cash drawing, and mingle with friends and neighbors.

This event will be held at the Stanley Plummer Community Building at 245 East Bonita Ave. in San Dimas from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Reservations are open to everyone over the age of 21 and early bird pricing is $30 per person.

The San Dimas Chamber hosts this outstanding community event as a way to promote local restaurants and businesses and provide networking opportunities. High school student art exhibition

The Millard Sheets Center is hosting the artwork and talent of students throughout the communities surrounding Fairplex. Students will have the opportunity to display artwork that expresses their creative voices in the form of visual arts. This event seeks to acknowledge their success, and that of their art teachers in a community setting.

Exhibition dates are through March 13 at the Millard Sheets Center for the Arts at Fairplex, 1101 W. McKinley Ave., Pomona.
