Library book sale set for Saturday

The Friends of the Claremont Library will host a book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, at the library, 208 Harvard Ave. in Claremont.

The Friends’ Book Lovers Book Sale will feature a variety of quality tomes perfect for holiday gifts. The selection includes children’s and adult books, from beautiful books of art and artists to a limited edition printing of “Heloise and Abelard” to collections of early and later classics in a wide variety of fields.

Cash and checks will be accepted.

Mountaineer volunteers wanted

The San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team is searching for volunteers. An informational meeting for interested applicants will be held at 8 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Mountain Rescue Center, 114 E. First St. in San Dimas.

The San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team searches for and rescues missing, trapped and injured hikers and vehicle accident victims in the mountains. They also assist with evacuations during forest fires and floods.

Members of the team are on call to help people who visit the mountain areas of Eastern Los Angeles County and the San Gabriel Mountains.

No experience is needed and all training is provided. Mountaineer volunteers must be at least 21 years old, in good health and be a full-time student or have steady employment.

Holiday extravaganza Dec. 7 in San Dimas

The fourth annual Downtown Holiday Extravaganza in San Dimas will be held from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, along Bonita Avenue.

Guests are invited to visit the famous Walker House and stroll along Bonita Avenue while they enjoy snow, strolling carolers, rides, entertainment, raffles and

a visit from Santa Claus. There will also be snow slides, photo opportunities with Santa and other displays.

Downtown shops and restaurants will also be open. A tree-lighting ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. at Rhoads Park, 210 W. Bonita Ave.

Claremont Chorale to perform

Performances of the Claremont Chorale will be held at 3 and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Claremont United Church of Christ, 233 W. Harrison Ave.

The concert will feature Christmas music old and new, intimate and grand from the United Kingdom, including a special presentation of Benjamin Britten’s “A Ceremony of Carols” on the occasion of the composer’s centenary.
