The Claremont Library will host a celebration to commemorate the completed renovation of its children’s section.

The event will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, at the library. It will include prizes, raffles, facepainting and refreshments. Officials will also recognize the donors and groups who were instrumental in the project.

Families are encouraged to bring their children to the celebration and get library cards if they don’t already have one. And those who become a member of the Friends of the Claremont Library will receive a bonus gift that day.

The renovation includes all new carpet; refinished walls and new furniture, including computer desks; study desks with power to charge electronic devices; and a new librarian’s desk. There is also a new soft-seating area that provides a place for children to read comfortably, and an interactive literacy wall.

The project was initiated and funded by the Friends of the Claremont Library, who raised funds from book sales and memberships from their faithful members. A spelling bee sponsored by the group as a fundraiser for many years provided some inspiration for the designs. Additional funding was provided by Los Angeles County supervisor Gloria Molina and the County of Los Angeles Public Library.

Many honorary guests are expected to attend including Molina, Los Angeles County librarian Margaret Todd, and Claremont city representatives.
