If you’re looking to lose some weight and get in shape, the city of Upland’s Biggest Loser Challenge might provide the motivation you’ve been looking for.
Based on the popular reality television show of the same title, the 10-weeklong program puts teams up against each other to see who can lose the most weight.
Through the city’s recreation division, the contest is an extension of the city’s Step Up to Health/Get Fit Upland! campaign, which aims to improve the health and lifestyles of residents.
Join your spouse, friend, co-worker or anyone who wants to shed some pounds while getting into a healthy regiment of exercise and good eating habits.
This year, Get Fit Upland has partnered with Crunch Fitness to provide participants with full gym membership during the challenge, which is valid at all six locations. The membership also includes an online nutrition planner and one hour with a personal trainer.
Contestants log their progress through five weigh-in sessions that occur through the 10-week program, and they can take place anytime during regular city business hours, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Each weigh-in will provide participants with incentives such as healthy treats as well as promotional items.
Prizes will be awarded in multiple categories including “Biggest Loser Team,” “Biggest Loser Male Individual” and “Biggest Loser Female Individual.”
Meagan McLees with Upland’s Recreation Division said Upland’s Biggest Loser has garnered some die-hard fans – and with good reason.
“We have people who have participated almost every single year, and we have people that come back every single year,” said McLees. “Not because they need it, but because they enjoy the incentive and they have fun.”
Winners of the challenge are announced at the Annual Lemon Festival in Downtown Upland in April.
Sign-ups are accepted through Jan. 30. The official challenge begins Feb. 3, and there is a $50 fee per team. Partici pants must be 18. Minors 16 years or older may participate with parent or guardian consent.
Upland’s Biggest Loser will also bring in a nutritionist to speak to participants about the importance of healthy eating and tips for a good diet.
