La Verne residents looking to get a head start on their spring cleaning are in luck.
That’s because the city is partnering with the La Verne Chamber of Commerce and Bonita High School to host its fifth annual Community Yard Sale on April 26.
Vendors will include local residents, community groups, teams and other groups from the community selling unwanted items. Anything left at the end of the day will be recycled or donated.
“Often times, these items are thrown away and end up in a landfill, which can take up valuable landfill space,” said La Verne Mayor Don Kendrick.
Beyond providing an opportunity for some great deals on second-hand items, the community yard sale also reduces waste, said Jeannette Vagnozzi, who works for the city.
“Our main goal from the city’s perspective is to create an opportunity for source reduction,” she said. “That’s right in line with our goals regarding the integrated waste management act of 1989. It requires us to reduce our waste going to landfills.”
The event also provides an opportunity to those who might not be able to have a yard sale because of the location they live, such as trailer parks and apartment complexes.
Those interested in participating as a seller can visit the City of La Verne website for applications or visit City Hall at 3660 D. St. or the Chamber of Commerce Office at 2078 Bonita Ave. To receive an application by mail, call 909-593-5265.
The cost of renting a space is $25 for a single parking space and $35 for two parking spaces. Participants do not need a yard sale permit.
It’s advised that spaces will sell out, so make reservations soon.
