Young ones – or their parents – searching for a way to keep active and have some fun during the slow summer break look no further than the city of San Dimas.

Over the summer, the city’s Parks and Recreation Department offers its Kids Fun Club program for children in grades 1-5 and Teen City program for teenagers in grades 6-9.

Each program is supervised by trained recreation leaders who will provide activities including crafts, games and sports. There’s also a weekly schedule of activities tailored to each age group.

Both programs offer a number of field trip oppor tunities as well, including trips to the beach, theme parks and sports events.

Kids Fun Club is offered from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Marchant Park and Ladera Serra Park. Cost is $70 per week.

The programs are especially helpful for busy parents that work throughout the week, said Recreation Coordinator Latoya Ward.

“It gives parents the opportunity to put their kids in a program that keeps them busy every day,” Ward said. “There is pretty much something for them to do every day they come to camp. It also gives parents peace of mind knowing that they are safe, spending the summer with trained staff.”

The weekly rate for Teen City is $35. The program is from 7 am to noon, although the facility stays open afterward, but switches to a drop-in program. Teen City takes place within the San Dimas Swim & Racquet Club.

A permission slip specific for each field trip is required, and transportation is provided by a chartered bus or city van. A fee will be charged for the trip.

There is no requirement for enrollment duration. Parents can sign-up their children for one week or up to 10 weeks. Both programs run weekly from June 9 through Aug. 15. Enrolment is limited.

A download packet is available online for those interested. One packet is required per child. Those without access to a packet can visit the Parks and Recreation Department and request a packet.
