Shepherd’s Pantry will celebrate its 10th anniversary of community service 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, at Hillcrest Retirement Community, 2705 Mountain View Drive, La Verne.

There will be dinner, silent and live auctions and musical entertainment by guitarist Michael Ryan. Ticket donation is $50 per person or $400 per table. Proceeds benefit Shepherd’s Pantry Clients and Programs.

Shepherd’s Pantry’s mission is to provide emergency food, clothing and emotional support to needy families in times of crisis and to provide the tools and resources to help families become selfsufficient. The vision is to strengthen families for stronger communities.

Services offered include:

•Walk-in and in-home food distribution. Food donations are needed to prevent the use of limited financial resources to pur chase food. Donations can be dropped off between 9 and 11 a.m. on Tuesday mornings or between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays.

• Clothing distribution for the entire family.

Donations of clothing for men and boys are needed.

• Resource counseling and emotional support.

• Children’s reading program. There are 30 to 35 children receiving free personalized reading comprehension tutoring by volunteers from 4 to 5 p.m. each Monday. This program provides muchneeded reading tutoring to children who would not otherwise be able to receive this type of support.

• Children’s math program. In the development stage, there are plans to start a math tutoring program for elementaryaged children. It is the hope to have the program underway soon. This program will be offered to the children of clients.

The number of people served continues to grow, and 23,000 people are expected to be served in 2014.

Donations of all types of nonperishable food, clothing, toiletry items, food gift cards and financial aid are welcome. Donations are tax-deductible.

Volunteer opportunities are available for those who have been called to serve others.
