Applications are now available for a five-day Leadership Academy for students who have completed fifth or sixth grade in the Glendora or Charter Oak School District.

The purpose of the Leadership Academy is to train and inspire young children to become leaders in their community and to teach them the skills necessary to do so.

The Leadership Academy will be 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, June 13-17 at the United Methodist Church, 201 E. Bennett Avenue in Glendora. The program is not affiliated with the church.

Information was distributed through the Glendora School District and can be found at www.glendorakiwaniannes.org.

To enroll students, parents should download the application form on the Kiwanianne website, complete the application form and mail it with a $25 check by May 27. Only 36 children will be accepted for the program. For more information, call (626) 963-6179.

This is the sixth year the Glendora Kiwaniannes have sponsored this summer leadership program for children.

“Many of the children who leave the program run for student body or club offices. The skills they learn at the Academy prepare them to be leaders,” said Pat Rasmussen, chair of the program.
