Are you like me? I tell myself life could not be more busy … and then it does.
Time to take a vacation!
I write from with a beautiful view overlooking Whitefish Lake in Montana, where we have come with my parents. Many of you knew my father as a dermatologist before Jeff and I came along.
He is a master fly fishing caster, and I was hoping our sons would catch his love for fishing. Indeed, my younger son caught a couple of rainbow trout at a local stocked pond. He tried but didn’t fare so well fishing for wild cutthroat the next day, though he did get about 20 bites.
Fly fishing definitely has a learning curve and takes patience and concentration.
Kids lose their patience so quickly when they don’t get the reward immediately. Heck, so do I, but I still enjoyed my day on the beautiful river.
The boys love the high ropes obstacle course on Whitefish Mountain. We have some of these courses close to our area in Southern California, but this course is much more varied and challenging. I love that they enjoy it and have been back three times during our stay here, but it’s not for me.
In fact, I write this relaxing by the lake, while they are on the course. I don’t derive any enjoyment or excitement from walking on a wire or balancing on flimsy shaky splinter of wood 50 feet in the air. Count me out.
We are teaching, or trying to teach, the kids how to waterski. My husband, Jeff, is a great slalom skier who learned in summer camp when he was their age. The water was freezing but they did give some effort. We are going to give it another try this afternoon in the speedboat, so we shall see.
The weather and the scenery are peaceful, but even on vacation, my mind turns to work. I check my phone and email constantly, and am arranging my work schedule from afar.
Well, today my parents leave to go back home. It was so nice to have the here and I am so lucky that my sons grow up with their influence and love. We will see them soon though when we are home in a few days.
