The Mt. San Antonio College Art Gallery kicks off its 2016- 17 year with an exhibit of works by Karl Benjamin, “Close Values: The Legacy of Karl Benjamin,” which runs Sept. 22 through Dec. 8 at the Art Gallery. This exhibit is free and open to the public.

Karl Benjamin was a painter of vibrant geometric abstractions and was known as a “Hard Edge painter” whose work reflected the relationship between color and form. He enjoyed early success in the 1950s with showings at museums and community galleries in Southern California, but the exhibit that put his work under an international spotlight and gave it a lasting label was “Four Abstract Classicists” in 1959.

Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Tuesday nights, 5 to 7:30 p.m. Special Saturday hours for this exhibit are from noon to 2 p.m. Oct. 15, Nov. 5, and Dec. 3.

For more information, call the Art Gallery at (909) 274-4328.
