Lawyers and judges in 19th century Los Angeles spanned the spectrum of modern standards of professionalism, from Benjamin Hayes’ sincere and solemn stances to William G. Dryden’s often outlandish outbursts.

Join Paul Spitzzeri, Director of the Workman and Temple Family Homestead Museum, as he presents on the “Curious Cases” of bygone Los Angeles justice, hosted by La Verne Historical Society, 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14 at Hillcrest Meeting House.

Spitzzeri will offer a look back at “Judges of Los Angeles, 1850-1875, Curious Cases of Los Angeles Justice.”

Admission is free and refreshments served. Hillcrest is located at 2705 Mountain View Drive and the meeting house is located at the main entrance. Note: The Reader on Dec. 30 stated an incorrect date for the event. The correct date is Jan. 14.
