Los Angeles County Librarian Skye Patrick joined the Los Angeles County Library in February 2016. Since that time she has created new and innovative programs for one of the largest library systems in the United States, with 87 library facilities serving 3.4 million people.

Patrick’s efforts to eliminate barriers and increase access to services for her residents have had a huge impact. Her transformative work at the library, and her strategic approach to inclusion in libraries earned her recognition as Library Journal’s 2019 Librarian of the year.

26th Wine Soirée and Auctions

Planning is in full swing for the 26th annual Wine Soirée, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday,April 14 at Diamond Bar Center, 1600 Grand Ave.

Chairs Dana Cox, Nancy Lyons, Rick Rogers and Tony Torng are planning community involvement with a souvenir wine glass, delicious food, wine and beer tasting along with interesting and desirable silent, book and live auctions. Ticket price is $65—no one under 21 can be admitted.

Let’s thank the volunteers

January’s annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner feted volunteers for their dedication and service to the Friends and the Diamond Bar Library, and welcomed our new Friends of the Library board headed by our new president, Susan Pantages.

The 2018 Basically BOOKS volunteer Harold Pressman has been an outstanding volunteer at Basically BOOKS on Golden Springs for several years.

The 2018 Jack and Kathleen Newe Volunteer of the Year is Helen Lin, treasurer. The Jack and Eileen Tillery Organization of the Year is St. Denis Catholic Community in Diamond Bar.Acting pastor, Father John Palmer, accepted the award.

Outgoing President Glendy Chiang presented four President’sAwards to Paula Block, Rosette Clippinger and Rachel and Roger Kirk. All four are long-time board members who are always ready to take on any task in support of the Friends.
