Don’t bank on mortgage promises
To improve their odds, they said they turned to a law firm that said it could possibly cut their mortgage payment in half. They also signed on with a “debt management” company that, according to the Hunts, said it could eliminate their credit card debt.

When I signed up with them, it was August 2009 and I was living in New Jersey, and since then they have submitted my pay stubs to my lender and my financials once. It has been several months and I still have not heard from either my lender or my lawyer.

MATTERS
You can see if your former state has passed a law like that and investigate what work your attorneys actually performed. If they didn’t do much and they don’t want to refund you money that you paid them, you should contact the New Jersey office that licenses and disciplines attorneys and file a complaint.

LAZARUS
If they’d taken a closer look at their contract with Mesa, they’d have seen language saying the firm doesn’t guarantee any results. Perhaps a Mesa representative gave the impression that a loan modification would be a slam dunk, but the contract makes no such promise.

I’m sure you’ve seen commercials or shows on television where the workers wear special coveralls, masks and even hooded suits to eliminate contamination. One can only imagine the massive multi-stage air filtration equipment that’s capturing all the dust around them.

The terms of real estate
But real estate is more than the price of homes or mortgage rates or what is hot and what is not. In its entirety, Orange County real estate is a collection of all of the above, plus a lot of intangibles, mixed in with other economic news such as the consumer confidence index and the price of gasoline.
