New retail store helps support local organization

Tobinworld Treasures is a new retail destination for high-quality, affordable gifts for the holidays in Glendale.

The shop was conceived and is operated by Tobinworld, the pioneering nonprofit specialneeds school for emotionally disturbed, autistic and developmentally disabled youth.

Items include leather goods, sequined dresses and other clothing, fragrances, jewelry, purses and wallets, wigs, electronics, toys and stuffed animals and other gifts for the holidays.

The gift shop is also a learning tool and Tobinworld’s latest innovation in a multifaceted vocational training program for its students, who comprise the sales staff. Proceeds from Tobinworld Treasures will benefit and support the school’s comprehensive programs and services.

“We have stocked this very special store with a wide array of items perfect for the holidays,” said Judy Weber, founder and executive director of Tobinworld. “We hope Tobinworld Treasures quickly becomes a shopping must for discriminating customers who are looking for quality bargains, most priced under $50.”

Tobinworld’s innovative vocational training program also includes a Baskin-Robbins ice cream parlor on its nearby campus, where students learn the rudiments of retailing by acting as preparers and servers to its select customers.

Tobinworld, which operates a second school in Antioch, Calif., was founded in 1977 to provide education and treatment to about 400 children and adults by using a behavioral management system expressly designed for its severely impaired population.

Tobinworld Treasures is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at 1006 E. Broadway Blvd. in Glendale. For more information, call 818.243.0407.
