Holocaust survivor, author to speak Feb. 3

In 1944, the Nazis took 13-year-old Stephen Nasser and 21 members of his family to Auschwitz and Muhldorf Concentration Camps. He was the only member of his family to survive the horrendous experience.

While at Muhldorf, he secretly wrote a diary which later became his book, “My Brother’s Voice.” This award-winning book, currently in its seventh print and published in the United States, Austria, Germany and Switzerland, describes in detail Nasser’s experiences while a prisoner of the Nazis.

From 4 to 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3, the international author and Holocaust survivor will share his story of the power of determination, love and survival. The special, free engagement will be hosted by the Friends of the Upland Public Library. It will be held in the Carnegie Cultural Center at 123 E. D St., Upland.

Author Roy Akers to give talk and writer’s workshop

Join Author Roy Akers as he discusses his book, “A Long Road Home.”

He will also delve into his writing experience and talk about the process of creating a fulfilling story. The free program will be presented from 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11, in the multipurpose room of the library.

Naturalization information session set for May

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will present a naturalization information session at 5 p.m., Thursday, May 15, at the Upland Library.

The session is part of a larger US- CIS initiative to help immigrants better understand the naturalization process to include the content of the naturalization test, and to become familiar with free educational resources and materials available from the agency.

USCIS personnel will be on-hand to discuss the naturalization process step by step and provide information about eligibility and residency requirements, application forms, fees, the background security check and processing times.

Participants will also see sample questions from the naturalization test and receive an overview of U.S. history and civic principles. Free educational materials will be given out while supplies last.

Author talk and writer’s workshop: “He Wrote Her Everyday” by Gail Lindenberg

Join local author Gail Lindenberg as she discusses her book, “He Wrote Her Everyday.” She will also delve into her writing process and talk about creating a fulfilling story.

This free program will be presented from 11 a.m. to noon April 12 in the multipurpose room of the library, 450 N. Euclid Ave.

Quilt to celebrate centennial

Your love for the Upland Public Library and city can be immortalized in a quilt created by the community for the city’s centennial. Come join local textile artist Corinne Tolley as she assists people in creating an artistic design that depicts the essence of the community of Upland.

You can sew, paint, and add buttons, yarn, string, ribbon or beads to the squares. All materials will be provided. Once the squares have been completed, Tolley will gather the squares and design a quilt, adding batting, a quilt back and binding. The final quilt will hang in the library for all to enjoy.

This free program will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. March 8 in the multipurpose room at 450 N. Euclid Ave., Upland. The quilt project is sponsored by the Friends of the Upland Public Library.
