Megan Hutter, author of “Images of America: San Antonio Heights,” recently discussed her book at Oakmont of San Antonio Heights.
Hutter, who grew up in Alta Loma, spoke before about 70 people at the upscale senior care facility, which opened earlier this year. San Antonio Heights is an unincorporated community immediately north of Upland in San Bernardino County.
Hutter’s 128-page book, published last year by Arcadia Publishing, presents a rich history of San Antonio Heights.
The small, affluent community traces its roots to the 1800s, when retired shipbuilder George Chafee, Jr. founded Ontario Colony. That tract included what later became San Anto nio
Heights.
“I wanted to show that San Antonio Heights has a history all its own,” Hutter said. “We’re important, too, even though we’re in the shadow of Los Angeles.” Dr. Depak Sheth, a San Antonio Heights resident, attended Hutter’s talk and said he was fascinated by what he learned.
“I thought it was very interesting,” said Sheth, whose medical practice is in Upland. “I had no idea San Antonio Heights had so much history.”
