Damien High School and the Notre Dame Club of Los Angeles will host a free lecture in December titled “Save Our Schools, Save Our Country, and Save Your Family.”

The lecture is open to the public and will be held at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Damien High School Travers-Cronin Event Center.

Professor Brian Collier from the University of Notre Dame will discuss how it came to be that so many schools struggle and yet so many students are busier than at any time since World War II. As families race to soccer practices and Scouts, wait in drop-off lines and at oboe lessons and sit through recitals, parents wonder how this is the fulfillment of the American dream.

Collier’s lecture traces American education since the turn of the 20th Century and shows what has changed and what some of our predecessors did really well to raise “The Greatest Generation.” What lessons can be learned from the schools that trained humans to get to the moon, write novels, plays and create television programming?

The engaging lecture also promises to be funny and cause everyone to go home with ideas to ensure that their children are getting the education they need to help reshape America.
