Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification in Inpatient Diabetes Care.

The standard is reflects commitment to providing safe and effective patient care. PVHMC is one of 13 hospitals in the state to hold this advanced certification, and one of only 86 hospitals in the nation.

PVHMC underwent a rigorous on-site review for national disease-specific care standards as well as with inpatient diabetes-specific requirements. Clinical practice guidelines and performance measures were also assessed.

“Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center has thoroughly demonstrated a high level of care for patients with diabetes,” said Wendi J. Roberts, RN, Executive Director, Certification Programs, The Joint Commission.

Established in 2006 and awarded for a two-year period, The Joint Commission’s Advanced Certification in Inpatient Diabetes Care is based on the American Diabetes Association’s Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes.

The standards are revised annually and provide a framework to guide clinical practice and recommendations related to: • Diabetes care in the hospital • Inpatient blood glucose targets • Written blood glucose monitoring protocols

• Plans for the treatment of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia

• Patient education on self-management of diabetes

• An identified program champion or program champion team

“Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center is honored to receive advanced certification from The Joint Commission, the premier health care quality improvement and accrediting body in the nation,” added Hugh Adair, RN, In-Patient Diabetes Coordinator at PVHMC. “The certification provides us with the framework to create a culture of excellence for those in our community.”
