Providence Adds Music Concentration, Scholarships

Providence Christian College in Pasadena is adding a Concentration in Music to its Christian liberal arts education beginning this fall. The college is holding auditions through March 15 in piano, instrumental and voice for prospective students interested in scholarships.

This year, Providence launched an Instrumental Group and added Fine Arts Night, which features solos, small groups and the Providence Chorale. These musical groups are under the direction of Professor Christina Bristow, who is also a soprano with the LA Master Chorale.

Providence is also offering a new Music Scholarship. The scholarship takes into account musical ability and training, academic prowess, and Christian leadership and character and has the potential to cover up to 70 percent of tuition for the highest awards.

“Music is a vital part of a broad liberal arts curriculum,” said Providence President Dr. Jim Belcher. “As a means of worship, community engagement, and self-expression, the study of music offers a variety of ways for students to pursue the glory of God and offer service to humanity. A concentration in music provides students basic training for a wide variety of professions and interests.”

Scholarships range from $2,500 to $18,000 per year. The scholarship requires an on-campus or recorded audition performed or submitted by March 15.

Providence Music Scholarships are available to students who have contributed significantly to one or more in the following areas: voice, keyboard/piano, or instrumental.

Scholarships are renewable for each year a student attends Providence provided the recipient maintains the required cumulative grade point average and successfully participates in the activity area for which the scholarships were awarded. Applicants are not required to have music as a chosen concentration.
