An Inland Empire soccer club sent several teams to Dallas, Texas in March for the toughest tournament in the boys’ soccer.

The BU16 USSDA Team and the BU19 team from FC Golden State both made it to the finals of Dallas Cup. FC Golden State has become known as the best non- MLS affiliated academy club in the country and is based out of Pomona.

With college coaches from all over the nation in attendance to scout for their next All American collegiate player, the Golden State boys gained recognition and attention throughout the tournament. The early week favorites from Golden State both made the finals in back to back games at Toyota Stadium just outside Dallas on Easter Sunday.

The FC Golden State soccer club has a fully funded academy supported by Pomona businessman Robert Friedland.

The local teams out-played the international opponents all week, but the BU16 team, which played against mostly 17 year olds in the BU17 super league, lost in the finals in penalty kicks against what was the best academy team from Mexico. FC Golden State was also short a player. A teammate’s father had tragically passed away the day before, and the player had to leave and return to California. The team wore black armbands in solidarity during Sunday’s final.

In the next final, the FC Golden State BU19 team dominated their game from beginning to end, bringing home Dallas Cup’s coveted “Golden Boot.”
