Temple Beth Israel in celebrating the Renewal of Jewish Life in Poland, 4 p.m. Oct. 23.

The program, one of a series of three concerts supporting Friends of Jewish Renewal in Poland, will showcase Cantor David Wisnia.

Cantor Wisnia is a 90-year-old survivor of the Auschwitz Annihilation Camp, where he was incarcerated for close to three years, saving his life by singing to entertain the Nazi SS and cell block leaders.

Wisnia’s grandson, singer-songwriter Avi Wisnia, will accompany his grandfather as well as perform his own original music. Avi Wisnia is an awardwinning composer, singer, performer and educator, finding inspiration in Brazilian bossa nova, acoustic American folk, 1950s jazz, and contemporary pop.

The evening will be hosted by Cantor Paul Buchan, ordained cantor and the leader of Temple Beth Israel of Pomona’s musical life.
