There’s no single style that characterizes popular music in the late 1950s and early ’60s. It was an era of transition, when variations – and combinations – of rhythm and blues, doo-wop, soul, gospel and rock and roll all found their way to hearts of music fans, into dance halls and onto the pop charts. Some of the era’s top artists will bring those genres back to life Saturday,Aug. 5. The “Legends of Doo Wop, Soul and Rock ‘n’ Roll,” featuring Mel Carter (“Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me”), The Flamingos (“I Only Have Eyes for You”), Chris Montez (“Let’s Dance”) and Carla Cooke (daughter of the legendary Sam Cooke) will bring together a diverse mix of styles for a memorable night of unforgettable hits at the Highlander Auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. Presented by Affordable Music Productions, tickets are available at www.affordablemusicproductions.com or by phone at 1 (888) 718-4253. Prices range from $49 to $79; there are no service fees. Highlander Auditorium is located at 850 N. San Antonio Ave. (at Foothill Boulevard) in Upland.
