Beam ceremony marks milestone

Work continues to advance on the new outpatient care center/community cancer center being constructed across from San Antonio Regional Hospital’s main campus in Upland.

The exterior walls of the building have gone up, and on March 29, officials from both San Antonio and City of Hope gathered for a topping-off ceremony to celebrate the placement of the building’s commemorative beam, which will remain on permanent display in the completed building.

The structural steel beam was covered with signatures, signed earlier in the month by City of Hope and San Antonio leaders and physicians involved in this important expansion project. The signatures represent the important partnership between the two healthcare leaders, who are collaborating to significantly expand the Inland Empire’s access to leadingedge, high-quality cancer care.

City of Hope currently has a community practice in the hospital’s Rancho San Antonio Medical Plaza in Rancho Cucamonga. The new cancer center will allow City of Hope to more than double its capacity to serve the region.

San Antonio Regional Hospital will provide additional services in the building to complement the cancer programming offered by City of Hope. Imaging services will include a PET CT scanner, ultrasound, and other diagnostic radiology services.

The hospital’s Women’s Breast & Imaging Center will move to the new building as well, and other outpatient diagnostic services will include a laboratory draw station and comprehensive pre-procedure and pre-surgical services.

Construction began in late 2017 for San Antonio Regional Hospital’s new outpatient care medical office building and the City of Hope community cancer center, which is slated to open in early 2019.
