Thank you, Gerda Sever Long-time Travelers Aid Volunteer Gerda Sever has earned her retirement after 22 years of gracious hospitality on Thursday evenings at the Ontario International Airport.

With her warm and welcoming accent from Denmark, she took her place at the information counter beginning at the original airport terminal in 1996. She served as a “referral expert” to be “a helping hand along the way,” the motto of Travelers Aid of the Inland Empire.

In 2013, Gerda Sever was nominated for the City of Ontario Volunteer Walk of Fame Award.

41st District honors Kathleen J. Tiegs, Board Member at Cucamonga Valley Water District and lifelong Rancho Cucamonga resident, recently was among women recognized by Assemblymember Chris Holden in the annual celebration of the 41st Assembly District’s Woman of the Year and Women of Distinction.

Women of Distinction include Jill Adler-Moore Ph.D. (Altadena), Christy Anderson (Claremont), Sylvia Whitlock Ph.D. (La Verne), Julie Gentile (Monrovia), Kathy Onoye Ed.D., (Pasadena), Rhonda Beltran (San Dimas), Joanne Harabedian (Sierra Madre), and Marie Sliney (Upland); the Woman of the Year is South Pasadena Mayor Pro Tem Marina Khubesrian, M.D.

Tiegs has a distinguished career in water resource management that spans more than three decades. She was elected to the Cucamonga Valley Water District Board in November 2005 and has held the seats of President, Vice-President, and Board Member.

Delta Nu honors Carol West Carol West, Delta Nu Chapter Honoree, pictured in front of the Area XIII Quilt.

Glendora educator Carol West recently was honored as the Delta Nu Chapter Honoree at The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, DKG California State Area XIII, annual conference, held at the First Church of the Nazarene’s Gilmore Hall in Pasadena.

Carol works tirelessly at many other Delta Nu Projects, such as hosting Delta Nu Garage Sales and Chairing the Literacy in the Laundromat project.

Carol taught in the GUSD for 38 years and now is coordinator of the GUSD-Community Read-In.

Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes the professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.

CVUSD administrators feted Three Chino Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) administrators have received top recognition from the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Region 12, which represents educators in San Bernardino County.

ACSA Region 12 honorees include Country Springs Elementary School Principal Tom Mackessy as the Elementary Administrator of the Year; Adult School Principal Carl Hampton as the Adult Education Administrator of the Year; and Deputy Superintendent of Schools Dr. Norm Enfield as Central Office Administrator of the Year.

Dr. Enfield, Mr. Hampton and Mr. Mackessy are now qualified to be considered for ACSA Administrator of the Year awards at the California state level.
