In 2016 California voters approved Proposition 64 which allows the cultivation, sales, and use of recreational marijuana. This officially took effect on January 1, 2018.

Proposition 64 also allows cities to establish their own regulations on certain aspects regarding recreational marijuana cultivation and sales.

The City of San Dimas has adopted some of these additional regulations.

Outdoor cultivation of marijuana in any form is prohibited in the City of San Dimas. Six marijuana plants per residence are permitted for indoor cultivation, but the City has additional regulations regarding this. Regulations require a no fee registration form be completed and submitted to the Community Development Department.

This registration assures that persons choosing to cultivate the permitted six plants are aware of the limitations that apply to indoor cultivation. These limitations specify which rooms may be used for cultivation and establish safety standards for lighting, chemicals, ventilation, water use, fire safety, and other possible nuisances.

City regulations also prohibit use of marijuana in all public places including but not limited to parks, public buildings, public sidewalks, trails, streets and roadways. In addition, all sales of medical or recreational marijuana are prohibited within the City, including mobile dispensaries.
