
A Remembrance Service for Glendora Police Officer Louie Pompei will be 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9 at the Louie Pompei Memorial, across from Via Verde Park in San Dimas. Officer Pompei was shot and killed June Officer Louie Pompei 9, 1995 at a food market in Via Verde, while attempting to stop a robbery. The public is invited to attend.
The public is invited to a Sons of The American Legion Squadron 112 cookout, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, Memorial Day, at Ontario American Legion, 310 W. Emporia St. Ontario. Unit 112 will also be taking donations for their Poppy Program. The Post will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. to join in comradery and share memories of loved ones who served in the Armed Forces. Two local Lions Clubs are teaming up June 1 to provide free vision screening and free recycled eyeglasses to those in need. The California Lions Friends in Sight event, presented by Pomona Host and Chino Valley Lions Clubs, will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Fremont Academy, 725 W. Franklin Ave., Pomona. Volunteer eye doctors and optometry students will check vision and asses the health of the eye. Lions will have available thousands of recycled eyeglasses and provide a pair that closely matches the measured screening refraction. Patients will be served on a first-come, first-served basis. The annual Communitywide Yard Sale, sponsored by Crossroads, Inc. will be 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at Cahuilla Park in Claremont. Vendor spaces are $30 for one or two for $50.
