 At the 35th Annual Recognition of Service to Youth Awards Ceremony, the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission of San Bernardino County presented Ontario-Montclair School District (OMSD) Superintendent Dr. James Q. Hammond the Don Williams Memorial Award. The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission of San Bernardino County is composed of citizen members representing all areas of the county and has adopted as its purpose the responsibility to “Provide citizen leadership for the support and evaluation of existing programs for the development of new and improved program, which reduce delinquency and divert young people from the Juvenile Justice System.” During Dr. Hammond’s tenure as Superintendent of OMSD, he has led numerous initiatives that have resulted in high levels of student academic achievement and increased attendance. The District’s current average daily attendance is over 97%. Additionally, suspension rates have dropped and there has been only one expulsion over the last three years. Dr. Hammond has been instrumental in bringing distinctive programs to OMSD schools including: Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM), Visual & Performing Arts (VAPA), Project Based Learning (PBL), Gifted & Talented Education (GATE), and four Accredited International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools. – Submitted by presented Ontario-Montclair School District
