Fun and romance take the stage at the New Tropicana
A
phenomenon that had Vegas visitors dancing in the aisles for six years,
smash hit musical “Mamma Mia!” has made a triumphant return to the
Strip with an open-ended run at the New Tropicana.
“It’s
so exciting that ‘Mamma Mia!’ is returning to fabulous Las Vegas,” said
show creator and producer Judy Craymer. “We are so thrilled to be
invited to the New Tropicana. It is the perfect hotel for us to bring
the original show back to the Strip amongst the glamour and excitement
of this legendary playground.”
Inspired
by the songs of beloved Swedish pop group ABBA, “Mamma Mia!” first
opened in London’s West End in 1999. Perhaps the ultimate feelgood
musical, it’s been seen by more than 54 million people in more than 39
productions in 14 languages. It is currently celebrating 15 years in the
West End and 12 on Broadway. The 2008 movie adaptation is one of the
most successful screen musicals of all time, grossing $600 million
worldwide.
“Mamma
Mia!” is a sunny, funny tale of family and friendship set on a Greek
island where, on the eve of her wedding, a daughter’s quest to discover
her father’s identity gathers three men from her mother’s past to a
place they had last visited 20 years prior. The show’s music, written by
ABBA founders Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, includes chart-toppers
like “Dancing Queen,” “Money, Money, Money” and “Take a Chance on Me.”
“Our
newly renovated, state-of-theart Tropicana Theater is the perfect venue
for the return of the show that set the standard for Broadway in Las
Vegas,” said Fred Harmon, vice president and chief marketing officer for
the Tropicana.
The
Tropicana show features cast members from “Mamma Mia!” productions
around the world, including Christine Sherrill (as Donna Sheridan),
Alison Ewing (Tanya) and Mary Callanan (Rosie), who all performed on the
North American tour; and Sean Allan Krill (Sam Carmichael), an alumnus
of both its touring and Broadway productions.
The
recent transformation of the Tropicana Theater is part of a $200
million renovation of the iconic property, including every room and
suite, and the sparkling 50,000-square-foot casino.
With
timeless tunes, an enchanting tale and utterly loveable characters,
“Mamma Mia!” at the New Tropicana is a guaranteed good time, every time.
