Keeping the ’40s relevant
Presenting a classic brick exterior, the 1940s residence was built for a furniture executive who planned to use the house to showcase items from the family business. The home, tastefully updated and maintained, has twice been honored as a Pasadena Showcase House of Design.

Silver turns a property into gold
Built in the 1930s, the home opens to living spaces full of dark hardwood floors and exposed brickwork. Features include a two-story great room set under vaulted ceilings, a dining room with a fireplace and a lofted office. In the master suite, among the home’s five bedrooms and six bathrooms, walls of windows center on the ocean.

Blessed and bashed by its location
The building we’re familiar with today is on the site where generations of Angelenos have marked the milestones of life, from joyful baptisms to the solemn business of funeral Masses, and the confirmations, quinceañeras and weddings that fill the years between.

Websites widen the treasure hunt
Professional estate sale companies are often called in, but many no longer operate like the ones that dispensed your grandparents’ belongings. As shopping continues to migrate to the Internet, so too have estate sales, with all or part of them now taking place online.

The past is baked into it
For Christmas, we did a Bing Crosby 1950s-themed brunch. After, we watched “White Christmas.” We did a “Jurassic Park” one where I baked things that looked like dinosaur eggs. My next one will be a “Westworld” theme.
