It’s like a walk in the park
Surrounded by mature trees, this single-story traditional home in Altadena has that Mayberry vibe. Layers of gardens and landscaping contribute to the leafy green setting, which encompasses about an acre.

He’s looking for a knockout sale
Built in 2016, the boxy two-story features 12-foot-high ceilings, wide-plank floors and an expansive terrace/patio that spans the upper level. About 4,900 square feet of interior includes an openplan kitchen and dining area, a living room with a fireplace, five bedrooms and seven bathrooms.

Steady and ready for its close-up
In 1873, the duo transferred a portion of the ranch to the Southern Pacific railroad, to build a branch line that would connect Los Angeles with Anaheim. As part of the deal, the brothers secured an agreement from the railroad that it would create a stop on their land.

From scary vibe to vibrant
There were, indeed, several scary things about the house, built in 1911. A hole in the roof allowed flocks of pigeons to roost in the attic. Jutting out of the attic floor was half a chimney connected to the faux Batchelder fireplace downstairs. The four cramped bedrooms shared a single small bathroom.

A new force in Windy City
People have converted them to two-bedroom flats, multi-unit buildings or condos, so I de-convert them back to single-family homes. I find artifacts from the original time and bring them into the build, make them look like they’ve been there for over ahundred years.
