Moving

to a new home can be exciting but also stressful, especially on moving day. To make it easier on yourself, pack a bag

with things you’ll need and put it in your car

rather than give it to the movers. This way, you won’t have to dig for “right away” needs.

Cleaning supplies: Beforeyou start unpacking, says Tamar Asken, an agent with Avenue 8, areal estate brokerage, “it’suseful to remove anyold juju to getyour place readyand makeit your own. Irecommend agood spray cleaner as well as something moreheavy-duty to makesure you’re able to reallyget into some of the areas that maynot be as tidy as you’dlike. Youwant to start fresh!” You’ll alsoneed paper towels, sponges,abroom, dustpan and trash bags.

Basic tools: Scissors and abox cutter are useful. Also, pack tools such as ahammer,screw driver,

and pliers to,for example, reassemble anyfurnitureyou need right away,likeabed.

Toiletpaper: “I spend alot of time in empty houses,and over theyears I’ve started to keep an emergencysupplyofTProlls in my car,” says Asken. Toiletpaper is something you’ll always need, so keep aroll handy.

Snacks and water: Have lots of water on hand and easy-to-eatsnacks likebananas,apples,or peanut butter and jellysandwichestoprovide an energyboost.

Charger and speaker: If you’ll be using your phone to stream music all daythrough aspeaker, pack your chargers so you’ll be readywhen the batteries getlow.

Showercurtain: Ashowercurtain or liner should be something youtakewith you, says Asken. “It’sespeciallyneeded if your movers won’tbedelivering your larger haul for acoupledays.”

Bedsheets,blanket and pillow:All you’ll want at the end of along move is sleep.Put the sheets on the bed earlier in the daywhen you still have alot of energy.
