The Playhouse is well-known for developing and premiering new plays and musicals such as Come From Away, Diana and Summer: The Donna Summer Musical. To date, the Playhouse has mounted 105 world premieres, commissioned 58 new works and sent 33 productions to Broadway, garnering a total of 38 Tony Awards, including the 1993 Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre. In addition, they are a notfor-profit institution that provides arts education and community building around the work of theatre. Every year, a new play for young people (the POP Tour) pops up in San Diego schools and is seen by over 20,000 students.
