The San Diego Botanic Garden is a 37-acre urban oasis in Encinitas whose mission is to create, share and apply plant wisdom in our world. Established in 1970, it features 15 gardens representing world regions/countries, as well as North America’s largest bamboo collection, the West Coast’s largest children’s garden and 12 demonstration gardens. The Garden’s four miles of trails display more than 5,300 plant species and varieties.

Approximately 200,000 people visit the Garden each year and enjoy a variety of classes, lectures, tours and hands-on activities for adults and children, as well as multiple exhibitions and events, including month-long shows celebrating orchids or houseplants, summer evening concerts, a fall harvest festival, and a winter lights festival.

The Garden works in botany, conservation horticulture, and applied plant sciences to address our biggest local and global issues—from food security and climate change to land management and home gardening.

It has received multiple awards and recognitions, including being named the Second Best Botanic Garden in the U.S. by TravelAwaits.com and one of the Top 10 North American Gardens Worth Traveling For by the American Public Gardens Association.

Wed.-Mon. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. (open until 8 p.m. on select Thurs. in summer), closed Tues.
