Kirsten Hicks Spira Partner and Co-Chair, Professional Responsibility Practice Jenner & Block LLP UC Berkeley School of Law LITIGATION Kirsten Spira represents the country’s largest law firms in their most pressing professional responsibility matters, including several mentioned in this nomination. She also serves as chair of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s influential Professional Responsibility and Ethics Committee, which issues advisory opinions that provide valuable ethical guidance to judges and practitioners. She is certified as a legal malpractice specialist and speaks and writes frequently on professional responsibility. One example of her recent success is her work defending a law firm and one of its partners in a lawsuit filed by a bankruptcy trustee that alleges the law firm aided and abetted a purported Ponzi scheme perpetrated by a nowbankrupt real estate investment enterprise. Spira and team prevailed in large part on a key anti-SLAPP motion. This case is significant because it is an example of a growing trend of claims by trustees against law firms stemming from the fallout of Ponzi schemes. See also
