Liberty’s founder and chairman Bill Johnson is a graduate of California State University Northridge (CSUN), where he was an All-American tennis player.

Right after graduating, Johnson began his insurance career in 1987 when he founded William J. Johnson Insurance Brokers Inc. with only a desk and a phone. In 2002, after 15 years of building the company (now known as The Liberty Company Insurance Brokers), Johnson decided to hand over management to others so that he could pursue a new venture in the film business. Over the course of the next 15 years, he produced 34 films featuring A-list talent.

In 2017, Johnson realized that his true passion was to be found in returning his day-to-day focus to Liberty with the intention of inspiring a special culture there. In the three and a half years since then, Liberty has grown its revenues and employee count by 10 times.
