An energetic and impressive gathering of Citrus College students were recently honored at the Citrus College Foundation’s fifth annual Scholarship Reception.
In observance of the college’s centennial anniversary, the Foundation and the college community celebrated “A Century of Scholarship,” awarding 61 scholarships to nearly 200 recipients.
The honorees’ scholarships were made possible by the generosity of the donors who contribute to Citrus College Foundation scholarships and the dedicated efforts of the Associated Students of Citrus College and the Financial Aid Department.
New scholarships Nine new scholarships were added this year, the majority of them established by Citrus College faculty and staff in honor of their family members and colleagues.
The
scholarships were awarded to students at various stages of their
college journey – including new transfers to four-year colleges and
universities, students continuing their education at Citrus College, and
recent high school graduates beginning their higher education journey.
They hope to enter career fields that include science, technology,
education, architecture and business.
“Citrus
College, from its beginning, has championed and rewarded academic
achievement,” said Superintendent/President Geraldine M. Perri. “The
students who received scholarships personify the college’s commitment to completion and excellence, and they deserve our heartfelt kudos.”
Joshua
Galvan received a Raul and Wanda Fernandes Memorial Scholarship for
transferring students who plan to major in architecture.
“Fortunately,
I committed to a great program with great professors and supporters,”
said Galvan. “I am grateful to Citrus College for giving me the
knowledge and opportunity to succeed - not only now, but also in the
future.”
