Feb. 12: Chino PD to discuss face recognition Chino Police Department invites the public to a forum this week to address privacy issues, policy, and seek public feedback on the use of facial recognition software.

The forum will be 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12 in the Chino Police Department Community Room, 5450 Guardian Way, Chino.

Facial recognition software can assist investigators in narrowing down a possible suspect lead in an investigation when an image of the suspect is obtained, but the identity is unknown.

It can also assist with the identification of a person who lacks the capacity or is otherwise unable to identify themselves (such as an incapacitated, deceased, critical missing or otherwise at-risk person).

The facial recognition software the department is interested in using was built specifically for public safety and will not be used with the Department’s on-officer camera system.

The software attempts to match key features in a photo of a reported suspect’s face with booking photos for people previously arrested.

To learn more about implementation of facial recognition program, contact Sergeant Tomicic at dtomicic@chinopd.org or (909) 334-3115.
