TWO EAST COAST FAVORITES OPEN AT THE COSMOPOLITAN
With 13 restaurants and Lucky Peach — a magazine
lauded by food devotees — on his resume, chef David Chang is an unstoppable
force in culinary culture, drawing influence and rave reviews from all over the
world for his eclectic cuisine. He recently added Las Vegas to that repertoire
with the January opening of Momofuku.
When the night calls for a big, fun celebration with
friends, a steaming helping of ramen to knock out a hangover or just some quick
sweet treats after the club, this hip-hop blasting, street-art adorned spot is
a cool new place to hang and an even better place to chow down.
Dim sum and then some
Flavors and textures collide to bomb diners with
dishes that can be described as the perfect mix of everything decadent. You can
make a whole meal of the buns and noodles for which Momofuku is famous. Don’t
miss Chang’s version of a “chicken sandwich” with chicken karaage slathered in
spicy mayo, pickled red onion and iceberg, and nestled into a bao bun. But the
star of the menu is the Smothered Katsu Chicken with shiitake gravy and black
pepper. This beckons memories of chicken fried steak but with a distinctly
Asian twist and a gravy that lingers in the mind and on the palate.
Go big or go home
Great for groups, the back of Momo’s menu features a
selection of dishes portioned for more than two people. Convivial tables with
the traditional Lazy Susan crown the experience. Fried chicken and caviar, 5
Spice Rotisserie Duck and Korean Braised Short Ribs lead this roster.
Start with dessert
With the opening of Momofuku, Las Vegas also got its
cool-kitsch sister sweet shop Milk Bar, the food baby of “Master Chef” host
Christina Tosi. Soft-serve flavored like cereal milk, her signature dessert the
aptly named Crack Pie and booze infused creamy libations such as the Fancy
Birthday Cake Shake are available at a walk-up window adjacent to Momofuku.
