President & CEO

LaVal Brewer, president and CEO of South County Outreach, brings more than 30 years of nonprofit leadership experience to his mission of addressing hunger and homelessness in Orange County. Since joining the organization in 2019, he has led a transformative period of growth, expanding access to essential services for vulnerable families. Brewer’s career began in youth recreation and evolved through leadership roles at the YMCA, Playworks Southern California and OneOC, where he built cross-sector partnerships. Under his leadership, South County Outreach increased the number of people served by 50% and opened a second food market to meet rising demand. He also expanded the organization’s Upscale Resale thrift initiative and reimagined its food distribution model to provide a dignified, grocery-style experience. Brewer remains active in regional initiatives, serving on the Continuum of Care Board and the Mission Viejo Planning Commission. In 2023, he was honored with the Institute for Community Impact’s Influencer for Good Award.
